[part the second]
Following from Friday, I bring more ramble-captioned black and white beauties. I should have mentioned before that I'm obviously not going to hit every black and white picture ever taken of this cast. These are here because they just affect me in some way. I'm thrilled that some of you have been enjoying this as much as I have; it's really lovely to hear from you, even if you've never stopped by before. So thank you, and onward.
this is so lovely and peaceful, and so Dominic, out there wanting to play in the rocks. I was under the impression that Billy took it, but I can't find corroboration now. still, that adds a nice layer to the picture if it's so.
oh, Elijah, you so hard.
I see you peeking, Wenham. Come out of the shadows. I'd love to see him as a villain, you know. He might tear things up on screen, you never know.
Again, it's criminal there are so few of Andy in black and white. What a fantastic face the man has, capable of showing every emotion in the world in scary clarity.

Would you follow him into the trees? Your answer is YES. Really strange lighting happening here, as his face is never so shadowed, and it just lends the picture an air of creepiness I love.

This photoshoot really didn't do anything for me—the drawn on tattoos were a bit ick to me—but I like this one. Maybe I just have a thing for fences. Um.
Because the other one on Friday was so successful, see. :) Also, she's got a fabulous body, if a little thin to me. Still, wow, beautiful.
The expression in his eyes and forehead sell this, with his hands a very close second. And I will say it again: either he's gotten over his irritation with scarves or Dominic's a filthy, thieving liar. Maybe both. :D
Viggo can tilt his head like that almost better than anyone else. He has perfect eyes for that lash-upwards look, too.
Right, okay, pictures from EII filming flew out like crazy, didn't they. But this one is my favourite because he's doing that pensive thing, and we wouldn't know immediately that it's Elijah, but the longer you look, the more he moves into the character and the character moves into him and there's that blurring Elijah will have a hard time finding again, I think, and that's as good a reason as any for him to be taking the roles he is now. *nod*
The picture's almost too flashy-bright, but it's like he knows it and is laughing with us. Good man.
When choosing pictures for this, I made an effort to include a few that I didn't necessarily like, but found interesting nonetheless. I dislike all of Billy's Empire supplement shots, but at least in this one what's being forced is Pippin, and not the oh-sho-sexay and oh-sho-scareh we see being attempted in the others. And his eyes really are stunning, enough that they make up for that ... hair.
You know, I really can understand why people love to write him. He gives you everything you need, short of dialogue, and who needs talking when he's this perfect silent?
Of course, as much as I like Liv earthy, she's also incredibly beautiful glammed-up. She has been blessed by her looks, but she's never untouchable, you know?
I might have required oxygen the first time I saw this. Of course it made me think of Billy's middle-of-traffic photo, but this is a very different vibe. You get the sense he's louche and relaxed but also made of steel; he'd damage an oncoming car more than the car would him.
These Best Life shots are so, so fantastic. Marton so, so pretty. Can you believe I never got around to seeing Asylum with him *and* Ian? Neither can I, and that's going to be rectified somehow.
Oh, Astin. This just gives off the air of being early in the shoot, before he and the photographer thought about what they even wanted from the pictures, much less got from them. What I do like about this are his eyes. They're just right.
He's young, but not; there's some experience in those eyes but still a lot of cheeky cheer in his face. I don't know if I love this picture, but I like it a lot.
I've spammed before the one probably taken the following second after this, with the wide grin below almost-disappearing eyes. But this has appeal too, in the way that he's clearly just going for it; he knows exactly what he's doing, and that's very probably why the next shot was of laughter. *ruffles his hair*
He is never going to be a rock star, but then he doesn't have to be; I mean, think about it: Dominic is more of a rock star than Billy on several levels. But when his lyric writing catches up to his music writing and the rest of the band's talent, he is going to shock every one of us.
I. love. this. picture. so much. This is what I mean by earthy and that rare confronting the camera. She's amazing but also vulnerable, and while I rarely point to a picture and think of fic outside of my own—I can't know what another writer sees—she is utterly the Liv of The King of New Orleans.

Probably my favourite b/w of Cate ever. She's like the most perfectly groomed thoroughbred horse, but she'll run outside and roll in dust and stand right back up and look just as amazing. Maybe more so.
There's always seemed to be a little distance between Bean and the other in the zillions of premiere events and photographs. I think he's accustomed to being the focus of a single, solo shot as opposed to climbing his castmates like the puppies (and some of the older dogs, too) so loved to do. It's clear he's very comfortable being photographed.
I just really can't get enough of this photoshoot. There's something very special about it, and it's almost a good thing I can't see much of his hair, because that addition might tip me over the edge.
Oh god, ROWR. I have nothing coherent to add, and I'm not even much of a Karl girl.
That hair, how I love it. And this version is new to me, at least, and I spent some happy time cooing over it. He makes for an interesting model, that's obvious; I think what sells him is what he's not selling. He's far too detached from the clothes and sometimes from himself to really act for a brand, but that detachment also makes the pictures themselves—separated from their purpose as advertisement—so amazing to me.
Craig earned another appearance, definitely. What a sweet face!
I can't even begin. Another one I don't think I love, but oh the places my head goes. He's just a fascinating man, and that comes across so well in pictures.
Probably the closest any of these Liv shots get to Arwen, but there's still enough of Liv's own softness.

A man cursed by the most unappealing role in the trilogy short of The Enemy, I think John Noble's had a bit of a tough go from the movies, whatever it's brough him professionally. But I have a soft spot for the kind things he's said about the other actors, especially Billy, to whom he was extraordinarily kind and showed a lot of respect. I don't know enough about him to talk more, and it's probably unfair of me that I don't really need to know any more, but there you go. He'd earned a place here, and there's a lot going on in this photo—probably in this man, too.
I am of about a hundred minds about the Flaunt magazine shots, and this is my favourite of them, to be sure. Taken by a kid, which is nice, but also it's a very unusual posture for Billy (I'm not talking about from the waist down, people; we all know he's all about the open, sprawly legs); his back is set strangely and his expression is very odd. Still, it's different and I like it, even though the lining of the jacket is very distracting. One where I have to be happy it's not in colour.
Speaking of unusual shots. She hardly looks herself, but she's tremendously cool. This speaks more of Sheba, her character in Notes on a Scandal, than Cate herself, I think. It's really interesting.

There is no one who could have played Saruman better, and while I think he felt burnt by ROTK, I also think the films have given him a tremendous shot of energy and affection for his craft, and for the reactions of fans. Go Chris.

I don't know what song he was singing at the time—I neither want nor need to know; please don't tell me—but if there's such a thing as scoured transcendence, Billy's got it in spades. If you've stumbled in here from other otps, this is where I stress what is probably obvious already, that I am very much a Boydish girl, and this picture is a big reason why. My god, people. And I haven't even started about the clothes. *lavishes him with affection*
Tell me that's not gorgeous. Really, I think I hate how hidden he was under Celeborn even more now, because. Wow.
Did I mention I think I have a thing about fences? There's something incredibly dirty about this picture, and I don't immediately mean dirty as in porny. Dirty as in you could scrub for days and that eyeliner's not coming off, because it's down under the skin. The picture's very close to trying too hard, but it just tips into good.

I have several Issues with JRD, but they all have to do with politics, not his acting. Gimli's another thankless role, and while I don't think he was spot on, I'm not sure anyone would have done better, and dude. Talk about suffering for your art. Like Christopher Lee, I think he's relishing what the trilogy's given to him in exchange for what he went through while filming it.
Oh, darling, it must be so hard to be bored and beautiful at the same time. :) I so love Dominic. He is utterly unlike anyone else.
Cate as a ringmaster long after the show's finished. I kind of like when she's photographed in outifts that make my head hurt, because she always, always rises above them. She's that brilliant.
You really don't want specifics on my reaction to this. But I think it's just so amazing that we get to see Ian this young and this ... I hate the word virile, I really do, but I'm having a hard time thinking of something comparable. He's just a very fine specimen, if a bit lanky and with so much potential for lazy contemplation of himself, but then that is perhaps how it should be. And dear god, look at that hair. Why no, I am not at all obsessed.
There are so few Billy b/w shots I like that I am willing to spam even newspaper scans, sigh. But this one is all about his expression. I love.
Miranda does arty. And frightening, too. Here she looks more fragile than any other pictures I've seen, and I don't really like the picture, but it's so different that I wanted it here.
Did I mention the sunburnt dignity?
This is serious business, y'all. He has a coat and everything. Honestly, I love this picture. I love all of his borderline-snarly model-style photographs, because they're just such whiplashes next to his perfect and absolute dorkishness. <3
Some of the pictures from this shoot showed Billy so tired and aged they were hard to look at, but some are so comfortable, like this one. I like that the photographer is not in his face—and not just because this photographer really went for the punched-and-puffy Billy kill in the pictures I don't like—and I like that he's just easing into what was no doubt a later sprawl. Oh, Billy.
He'd make a very sweet assasin, would he not? Most people would surrender pretty quickly, I'm thinking.

Another almost-vulnerable shot, but there's strength in her, too. She wouldn't shoot out of the chair and kick quickly; she'd slide off slowly, because it's not her fangs, see, it's her venom. I've had some caffeine since first writing these o.O.
I know it exists larger, but this is enough for me. Dominic looking down is one of the loveliest sights ever. Again, so young, but roughed up just enough by time.
I would go bankrupt to watch this man in rehearsal. Look at him, look at that controlled body language and the process at work just in his expression. *hands*
We haven't seen nearly enough of Billy's pictures (and we probably never will). I think he loves taking them (with or without the Holga he very much loves) and that he's got a good eye and appreciation for the craft. Good, good man. I sometimes wish this were larger/clearer/more about him, but more often I just love it on its own merits.

You know, I loved the fauxhawk once it had grown out this much. It's a good look on him, because it works when he's being a goof and when he's setting his face and eyes like this. He can be quite a lovely creature. *pets his head*
This was such a successful shoot for him. Not one picture came out off or as too much, and the focus is just right; you sense his age but it's not the only thing going on. I could look at Ian for hours, same as Billy and Dominic. Hmm.
The writer part of me wants to think about why he's so punched up here, and so ... almost ickily damp. But I invite people who actually write Bean to take care of that. Instead I'll just point out the white shirt. I really love white shirts. I should spam—oh, wait.
Oh, Liv. You so soft. Look, curves. I love curves. And she is so stunning and fun and everything else.
And finally, it's a grave injustice that there aren't any enough black and white pictures of the people behind the scenes of LOTR. This picture of Peter and Howard (oh Howard!) makes me so happy, and I wish I'd had more time to dig for more shots, because there are all those things on the special features discs, but. This is enough I think for now, and I end this with Peter because he's why we're here, people; he brought these people together, he made these films and built the foundation for the little and large fanon houses we then built on top. The man's a genius and I'm grateful to him for all of this. That's really it, there in black in white.

Oh my lord. This is the kind of thing that might have gotten me thrown off LJ had it just appeared. *eyedart* You see how soft the focus is here? And yet even through that his eyes are so clear.

Another almost-vulnerable shot, but there's strength in her, too. She wouldn't shoot out of the chair and kick quickly; she'd slide off slowly, because it's not her fangs, see, it's her venom. I've had some caffeine since first writing these o.O.
I know it exists larger, but this is enough for me. Dominic looking down is one of the loveliest sights ever. Again, so young, but roughed up just enough by time.
I would go bankrupt to watch this man in rehearsal. Look at him, look at that controlled body language and the process at work just in his expression. *hands*
We haven't seen nearly enough of Billy's pictures (and we probably never will). I think he loves taking them (with or without the Holga he very much loves) and that he's got a good eye and appreciation for the craft. Good, good man. I sometimes wish this were larger/clearer/more about him, but more often I just love it on its own merits.

You know, I loved the fauxhawk once it had grown out this much. It's a good look on him, because it works when he's being a goof and when he's setting his face and eyes like this. He can be quite a lovely creature. *pets his head*
This was such a successful shoot for him. Not one picture came out off or as too much, and the focus is just right; you sense his age but it's not the only thing going on. I could look at Ian for hours, same as Billy and Dominic. Hmm.
The writer part of me wants to think about why he's so punched up here, and so ... almost ickily damp. But I invite people who actually write Bean to take care of that. Instead I'll just point out the white shirt. I really love white shirts. I should spam—oh, wait.
Oh, Liv. You so soft. Look, curves. I love curves. And she is so stunning and fun and everything else.
And finally, it's a grave injustice that there aren't any enough black and white pictures of the people behind the scenes of LOTR. This picture of Peter and Howard (oh Howard!) makes me so happy, and I wish I'd had more time to dig for more shots, because there are all those things on the special features discs, but. This is enough I think for now, and I end this with Peter because he's why we're here, people; he brought these people together, he made these films and built the foundation for the little and large fanon houses we then built on top. The man's a genius and I'm grateful to him for all of this. That's really it, there in black in white.
